The Federal Government has fully automated the evaluation and authentication of academic certificates, ending the need for applicants to visit the Federal Ministry of Education physically to complete the process.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the development on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, describing it as another step in the government’s digital transformation of education administration.
Applicants can now complete the evaluation and authentication of their academic credentials online through the Ministry’s dedicated platform. The official portal is essverify.education.gov.ng, while enquiries can be directed to ess1@education.gov.ng.
According to the Ministry, the new system is intended to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, speed up processing and improve transparency while making the service more accessible to Nigerians and applicants outside the country.
The reform is also aimed at strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s academic certification system. Alausa said institutions, employers and otherwise stakeholders would have access to a more structured and reliable process for verifying qualifications.
The Ministry said the initiative reflects its commitment to using technology to modernise education governance, improve institutional efficiency and deliver more citizen-centred services.
For graduates, employers, institutions and other stakeholders, the immediate change is straightforward: academic certificate evaluation and authentication can now be completed online.
For the education sector, the reform represents another step towards a system in which academic records are digitally managed, easier to verify and less dependent on physical documentation.
