The Flamingos have completed a flawless campaign at the 2026 WAFU-U17 Girls’ Cup, defeating Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, to claim the regional championship.
It was the perfect finish to a tournament in which Nigeria won every one of its five matches, overcoming both Ghana and tournament hosts Côte d’Ivoire along the way. Under the guidance of Hakeem Busari, the Nigerian U-17 women’s national team remained unbeaten from the opening match to the final.
Captain Chidi Harmony was central to the decisive victory, scoring twice before half-time. She opened Nigeria’s account from the penalty spot in the 15th minute and returned 20 minutes later to convert another spot-kick, putting the Flamingos firmly in control at the break.
The second half produced two more goals as Nigeria maintained its grip on the contest. Olubebube Umejiaku struck in the 67th minute before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added the fourth goal in the 90th minute, completing the 4-0 victory and confirming the Flamingos as champions.
The result also gave Harmony and her teammates a fitting reward for the consistency they displayed throughout the competition.
“We are so proud of what we have achieved. It is not easy to win all five matches. Our main achievement is beating Ghana and the hosts Côte d’Ivoire,” Harmony said after the final.
For the Flamingos, however, the WAFU-U17 crown is now part of a larger assignment. The regional triumph comes as Nigeria prepares for the next stage of its international campaign—the U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco.
The World Cup is scheduled to run from October 17 to November 8, with Nigeria placed in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland.
The Flamingos will therefore move from celebrating a perfect regional campaign to preparing for a demanding global contest, carrying with them the confidence of five wins from five matches and a WAFU-U17 title secured with a convincing final victory.
