Tems Sets Historic Record as First African Female Artist with RIAA Diamond-Certified Single

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become the first African female artist to earn a Diamond-certified single from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

She reached the milestone through "Wait For U," her collaboration with American rapper Future and Canadian rapper Drake. The song surpassed 10 million certified units in the United States, qualifying it for Diamond certification.

Music analytics platform Chart Data reported that the record has gone even further, accumulating more than 11 million certified units in the U.S. and earning an 11-times Platinum certification from the RIAA.

The achievement makes Tems one of only two African artists to receive an RIAA Diamond-certified single. Nigerian superstar Wizkid was the first to reach the milestone through his collaboration with Drake on "One Dance."

Since breaking onto the international scene, Tems has established herself as one of Nigeria's most successful music exports. She has won multiple Grammy Awards, received nominations for several major international honours, and collaborated with some of the biggest names in the global music industry.

Fans and music enthusiasts have widely celebrated the achievement, describing it as another significant milestone for Nigerian music. The recognition also reflects the continued international growth of Afrobeats and the increasing global reach of Nigerian artists.
