Accessing government services in Nigeria could soon become significantly simpler following the unveiling of a unified digital platform designed to bring multiple public services together in one place. The development signals another milestone in Nigeria's digital transformation, with the goal of reducing bureaucracy, improving efficiency and creating a smoother experience for citizens and businesses.
The Government Service Portal was unveiled during a soft launch in Abuja by Galaxy Backbone in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
For many Nigerians, obtaining public services has often meant navigating multiple websites or visiting different offices to complete a single process. The new portal is designed to replace that fragmented system with a secure digital gateway, including a single sign-on feature that allows users to access multiple government services without repeatedly submitting the same information.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Nadungu Gagare, represented by the Director of E-Government, Mr. Johnson Bareyei, described the initiative as one of the flagship projects under Nigeria's e-Government Master Plan 2.0.
He said the portal reflects what can be achieved when public institutions work towards a shared goal of making government faster, simpler and more accessible. It also supports the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, and Nigeria's Digital Public Infrastructure framework, while promoting transparency, accountability and ease of doing business.
Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, said although many Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have digitised their services, users still encounter a fragmented experience.
He said the Government Service Portal brings those services together under one trusted gateway, making them easier to find and access. According to him, government should be organised around the needs of citizens rather than institutional boundaries.
Adeyanju added that the initiative supports the government's Renewed Hope Agenda by improving public service delivery, advancing digital innovation and driving economic growth through technology. He described the portal as a key component of Nigeria's Digital Public Infrastructure, complementing existing national digital identity, payment and data exchange systems.
He explained that the soft launch will enable more MDAs to integrate their services, strengthen system interoperability and incorporate user feedback before the nationwide rollout.
Adeyanju said the platform's success would ultimately be measured by how easily citizens access services, the confidence businesses have in public institutions, the time saved and the trust built through greater transparency.
Representing KOICA Nigeria Country Director, Mr. Eunsub Kim, Senior Deputy Country Director Ki-Hyun Baik described the portal as the flagship achievement of the "Building a Foundation Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria" project.
He said the initiative moves Nigeria closer to a genuine one-stop government service by providing a single point of access for citizens. Baik also reaffirmed KOICA's commitment to supporting the project beyond the pilot phase.
Ahead of the launch, user acceptance testing was conducted across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory, according to Olumbe Akinkugbe, Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone.
The exercise involved 184 participants, with more than 80 per cent describing the portal as user-friendly. Eighty-eight per cent successfully located the services they needed, while 71 per cent rated the platform as fast or very fast.
The survey also found that 91 per cent would use the portal again, while 99 per cent said they would recommend it to others.
Akinkugbe said feedback from the pilot phase has already improved user registration, image capture and one-time password delivery. He added that additional MDAs will be onboarded in the next phase, expanding the range of services available through Nigeria's unified digital gateway.
