Miva Open University has signed a strategic partnership with Terra Industries to accelerate practical technology education through the establishment of Integrated Robotics, Drone, and Virtual Reality (VR) Laboratories, a move expected to equip students with industry-relevant skills in some of the world's fastest-growing technology fields.
The partnership, formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), combines Miva's commitment to innovative learning with Terra Industries' expertise in robotics, drone technology and emerging digital solutions. Together, both organisations aim to provide students with practical training that complements classroom instruction and prepares them for the demands of the modern workforce.
The initiative will begin with the establishment of an Integrated Robotics and Drone Laboratory at the Miva Open University Study Centre in Abuja. The university plans to replicate the facilities at its other study centres, expanding access to cutting-edge technology and hands-on learning opportunities for students across the country.
Through the collaboration, students will gain practical experience in designing, assembling, testing and flying drones while exploring robotics and immersive virtual reality technologies as part of their academic programmes. The laboratories are expected to foster creativity, encourage innovation and provide an environment where students can develop solutions to real-world challenges.
Terra Industries will in turn deliver specialised workshops, provide technical training for faculty members and create internship and employment opportunities for high-performing students. These initiatives are designed to strengthen the university's academic capacity while ensuring graduates leave with both technical competence and valuable industry experience.
As demand for skilled professionals in robotics, automation and advanced technologies continues to rise, the collaboration positions Miva Open University to play a greater role in developing Africa's next generation of engineers, innovators and technology entrepreneurs.
For both institutions, the agreement represents the launch of a shared vision to bridge the gap between academia and industry, promote experiential learning and equip young Africans with the knowledge, practical skills and professional exposure needed to shape the continent's technological future.
