Kelechi Iheanacho has surpassed a record shared by two celebrated figures in Turkish football, scoring in 10 consecutive matches to establish a new benchmark while continuing his prolific campaign with Bursaspor.
The Nigerian international reached the milestone on Thursday, October 15, 2026, with a two-goal performance and an assist in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Muğlaspor at the Muğla Atatürk Stadyumu. His latest contribution took his season tally to 14 goals and three assists in 10 appearances, highlighting the scale of his influence since joining the Turkish First League side.
The achievement places the former Manchester City forward ahead of Galatasaray icon Metin Oktay and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı, both of whom scored in nine consecutive matches in the Turkish Süper Lig. Oktay recorded his run during the 1962–63 season, while Sancaklı matched the feat with Kocaelispor in the 1995–96 campaign.
Iheanacho had already rewritten Bursaspor’s own record before facing Muğlaspor. His ninth successive scoring appearance took him past Fernandao, whose eight-match run in the 2014–15 season had stood as the club’s previous best. Thursday’s performance extended that achievement beyond the club level and into the history of Turkish football.
The match itself offered a brief interruption before the Nigerian found his way onto the scoresheet. Three minutes after the restart, he headed the ball into the net following a goalmouth scramble, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
He eventually broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, finishing a pass from Halil Akbunar to put Bursaspor ahead. The goal preserved his scoring streak and gave his side the advantage in a contest that would soon move further in their favour.
In the 73rd minute, Iheanacho struck again, guiding a left-footed finish into the net from inside the penalty area to double Bursaspor’s lead. His involvement was not limited to scoring, as he supplied the pass from which Hüseyin Maldar completed the 3-0 victory in the 83rd minute.
The performance adds another productive chapter to the career of a striker who has represented Manchester City, Leicester City and Sevilla. Now making his mark in Turkey, Iheanacho is combining regular goals with creative contributions, giving Bursaspor a forward whose influence extends beyond the final touch.
His return of 14 goals and three assists from 10 appearances offers a measure of the form behind the record. With his scoring sequence now at 10 consecutive matches, the Super Eagles forward has moved beyond the previous benchmarks set by both his club’s history and two of Turkish football’s recognised names.
The next test will be whether Iheanacho can extend the run further as the season progresses. For now, his latest performance has secured a place in Turkish football history and given Nigerian football another notable achievement on the international stage.
