Trinity University Records Two Perfect 5.00 CGPAs Among 79 First-Class Graduates

Two graduates of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, have completed their studies with perfect Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPAs) of 5.00, placing them among the university’s 79 first-class graduands at its fifth convocation.

Osemen Esezobor, who studied Computer Science, and Osayuware Osazuwa, a graduate of International Relations, achieved the highest CGPA reported by the institution. Their results stand out in a graduating class that also includes 147 second-class upper-division graduates, 48 second-class lower-division graduates and 10 third-class graduates.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Clement Kolawole announced the figures on Monday during a news conference ahead of the convocation ceremony scheduled for Friday. He commended the two students for their academic performance, describing their perfect scores as a reflection of their commitment to excellence.

The university also announced the elevation of Mrs Modupeade Adetunji to full professor of Food Microbiology and Mycotoxicology, following approval by its Governing Council. Kolawole described the appointment as a meaningful and significant development in the institution’s academic growth.

Beyond its examination results, Trinity University is placing greater emphasis on preparing students for employment. Kolawole said the institution had made skills-acquisition programmes compulsory alongside academic studies, with the aim of equipping graduates for opportunities beyond the classroom.

A partnership centred on digital literacy has already helped some students obtain international remote jobs, according to the vice-chancellor. Such opportunities allow graduates to compete for work in the global labour market while remaining in Nigeria.

The university convocation timetable has been adjusted to accommodate graduates facing registration deadlines for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Course and admission deadlines at foreign universities.

Mr Samuel Olatunji, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, said the institution was positioned to contribute to national development through the quality of its graduates. He identified integrity, cooperation, reverence for God and community development as core values in the university’s approach to education.

Olatunji said these principles remained central to its responsibility to produce graduates who could make meaningful contributions to society.

Established on May 20, 2019, Trinity University has continued to develop its academic programmes and institutional capacity, Registrar Mr David Oyejide said. He was represented at the news conference by Mr Michael Bamigbola, Head of the Corporate Affairs Unit, who thanked stakeholders for their continued support of the university’s vision.

Oyejide expressed confidence in the institution’s future, saying its work would continue to benefit students and contribute to the society.

The weeklong convocation programme will include a lecture, degree conferment, prize presentations and a thanksgiving service.

The ceremony brings together several strands of the university’s development which includes, academic performance, the advancement of its teaching staff, a reorganisation of its faculties and efforts to connect education with employment. The two perfect CGPAs provide the most striking figures in this year’s results, while the university’s digital literacy initiative points to its attempt to give graduates a foothold in a job market that increasingly extends beyond national borders.
