Hospitals Are Now Free To Treat All Accident And Gunshot Victims - Police IG
According to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, safety of victims during accident and gunshot situations must be ensured at all times.
He urged doctors to treat accident and gunshot victims without seeking police clearance.
A statement was issued by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who said the directive by the IGP became necessary due to the reported death of victims who could not secure police clearance in good time to be treated.
Over the years, gunshot victims were expected to present police clearance before they could receive treatment. This was meant to assist the Police Force in arresting criminals on the run.
“The Police High Command also directed its Officers and men not to harass good Samaritans/Nigerians in this regard, but endeavor to elicit correct facts in relation to incident from them” - The statement further said.
''Police therefore, enjoin citizens not to relent in their cooperative attitude in ensuring safety of all. While they are also to report any suspicious person or persons to the nearest Police Station'' - Police IG
Henceforth, doctors and nurses are to attend to accident & gunshot victims immediately and later inform the police for necessary action.
