BALOGUN KANJUKO'S CROSS

Once upon a time in Adumewe land, there lived a righteous man, Balogun Kanjuko Kogberegbe. He was stern, principled, very disciplined and incorruptible. He belongs to the Apase royal family which was favoured to take over the stool from the Papapa Ajopin ruling council.

Balogun Kanjuko Kogberegbe had vied for the Baale of Adumewe stool three times in time past, but the King makers, the Emewas and the Adiboyanni have refused to choose him to rule over them.

He had once ruled over them before by force when he was a Hunter and Town Protector- Asogba, he chased away Baale Onigari from the throne. He reigned with brutish force and the inhabitants of Adumewe cowered under him with trepidation. He was later chased away by Baale Igida and since then been seeking a return as Baale.

He has on those times he vied won the votes of the Kingmakers from his own Ibile Idiko in Adumewe kingdom. All and sundry knew his stand on stealing the yams in the community barn, collecting 'Isakole eyin', illicit tribute and 'Owo eyin'- bribe.

He strategized and met with the Aromisalegbelegbe ruling house headed by Afobaje Ejalonibu- a prominent Kingmaker so as to merge their forces and depose the quiet, passive Baale Olobele Oriire from the throne whose reign has witnessed a lot of lull, indiscriminate stealing of yams by the council Chiefs and lack of control.

The sons and daughters of Adumewe Kingdom were equally angry and they wanted the just former Baale Kanjuko Kogberegbe to take over from Baale Olobele Oriire.

Balogun Kanjuko Kogberegbe knows he can not dethrone Baale Olobele Oriire without the support of some prominent chiefs whom he adopted as his children, notably Chief Amoo and Fasheluka.
Amoo is Baale Olobele Oriire's cousin from the Papapa Ajopin Royal house, but he betrayed him to support Balogun Kanjuko Kogberegbe of the Apase ruling family.

Baale Kanjuko Kogberegbe turned a blind eye to the stealing of yams by Oloye Amoo and Oloye Faseluka because he wanted to become the Baale of Adumewe. Since he was not personally stealing the yams, he felt innocent even though the proceeds of the yams was used to 'sort out' the Kingmakers, 'convince' the Adiboyanni of the need to support the emergence of Baale Kanjuko Kogberegbe. Baale Kanjuko Kogberegbe was coronated into the palace after Ojogbon Ajigijaga announced the choice of the Kingmakers. He has promised to collect all the yams stolen by Baale Olobele Oriire and the ones stolen by his chiefs under his watch and put them in the Palace dungeon for yam stealing. People from the Papapa Ajopin family have insisted that If he must collect the Adumewe yams stolen by Baale Olobele Oriire and his council of Chiefs, he should extend such treatment to Oloye Amoo and Oloye Fasheluka whom he plans to make Chiefs in Adumewe kingdom for their contribution to his victory at Iyanba- King selection.

Therein lies the confusion of Baale Kanjuko Kogberegbe. Even though he didn't steal or eat any yam from the community barn personally, those who did are now in his fold as members of the Apase ruling house and they used part of the proceeds of the stolen yams to see to his emergence and coronation. Would the new Baale not become an ingrate If he collects the remaining yam in the coffers of Oloye Amoo and Oloye Faseluka and send them to the Palace gaol- Tuubu or treat the matter as a 'family affair'.

Afterall, no one sacrifices the deity's offspring to it! 'A kii fi omo'ore bo're! If Baale supports the trial of the Oloyes, he will be deemed as biting the fingers that fed him, If he doesn't, he will be deemed as biased and selectively just. Kindly advise Baale Kanjuko Kogberegbe...
