Nigeria’s Nnadozie Makes FIFA Best Goalkeeper Shortlist!

Nigeria’s golden girl between the posts, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper Award, marking yet another milestone in a career defined by excellence, grit, and unshakable composure. The Super Falcons shot-stopping sensation continues to etch her name among the elite in world football, a journey that began in the heart of Imo State and now shines on football’s grandest stages.

Born on December 8, 2000, in Orlu, Imo State, Nnadozie’s rise from a local talent to an international icon embodies the Nigerian spirit of determination and pride. She began her football career with Rivers Angels, where her exceptional reflexes and confidence quickly established her as one of the brightest prospects in the Nigerian Women’s Football League.

Her international breakthrough came at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she impressed the world with her calmness and maturity under pressure. The following year, she joined the senior Super Falcons squad and made history at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, becoming the youngest goalkeeper ever to keep a clean sheet at the tournament, following Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over South Korea.

In 2020, Nnadozie made a bold move to Europe, signing for Paris FC in the French Division 1 Féminine. Over the next five seasons, she transformed into one of the league’s top performers and one of Africa’s most respected footballers abroad. Her consistency between the posts and unmatched penalty-saving instincts became the backbone of Paris FC’s success.

During the 2024-25 season, Nnadozie delivered her finest club performances to date. She helped Paris FC lift the Coupe de France Féminine, stunning Paris Saint-Germain in a dramatic penalty shootout where her saves made the difference. Across the campaign, she recorded 11 clean sheets and maintained an 80 percent save rate, earning multiple Player-of-the-Match honors. These exploits not only cemented her status as one of Europe’s most reliable goalkeepers but also caught the eye of FIFA’s global panel of selectors.

But her brilliance didn’t stop at club level. As goalkeeper of the Super Falcons, Nnadozie led Nigeria to WAFCON glory in 2024, reclaiming Africa’s crown after a tense and emotional campaign. Her leadership, command of the defense, and penalty heroics in the semi-final and final rounds were decisive  and her post-match tears of pride captured the nation’s heart. She became a symbol of hope and excellence for a new generation of African footballers.

Now shortlisted for the FIFA Best Goalkeeper Award, Nnadozie stands alongside the very best in the world, a testament to how far hard work, faith, and perseverance can take a dreamer.

From Orlu to England, where Chiamaka currently plays for Brighton & Hove Albion; Chiamaka Nnadozie’s story is one of resilience, brilliance, and national pride. As the football world awaits the final announcement, one thing remains certain: Nigeria’s wall of steel has already conquered hearts across continents.
