Nigeria is gearing up to attempt a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest dining table this December in Abuja, as part of the NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival.
The Director-General of NIHOTOUR, Dr. Abisoye Fagade, and the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, announced the plan during a joint press briefing. The festival, themed “Oriki: Taste of Culture,” aims to spotlight Nigeria’s culinary heritage while boosting tourism, creativity, and investment opportunities.
At the heart of the event will be a 3.6-kilometre dining table expected to seat 2,000 to 3,000 guests. The world record attempt will take place on the morning of December 6, and the table will later serve as a communal dining space for evening celebrations.
Organisers say the festival will fuse food, culture, music, and comedy, positioning Abuja as a major cultural destination in December. Dr. Fagade noted that the initiative supports NIHOTOUR’s goal of strengthening Nigeria’s tourism value chain through entrepreneurship, capacity-building, and youth empowerment.
Minister Musawa described the initiative as a catalyst for youth inclusion and economic growth, noting the rising global appeal of Nigerian cuisine and the creativity Nigerians continue to showcase on the international stage.
