Nigeria's SKEPTA, Wins Britain’s Prestigious Mercury Prize


British-Nigerian rapper, JOSEPH ADENUGA , a.k.a Skepta, won the UK’s reputable Mercury Prize for his album “Konnichiwa”, in recognition of the popularity and acceptance of his type of music.

His genre of music called 'The Grime' originated from the Hip-hop style of music. 

Skepta on Thursday 15th September 2016 at the London Eventim Apollo, clinched the £25,000 award price for his album, which carries messages on police harassment and his anger at British politics.

In an interview after the awards, Skepta revealed to the BBC how fortunate he was to have secured the award ''The internet has given a lot of opportunities to people who are not built for big corporations. It allows you to speak to fans directly. To make things from your bedroom and give it to them''

Skepta is known to have featured in Wizkid's 'Ojuelegba' remix.
