Made-in-Nigeria Textiles To Be Used For Military, Paramilitary Uniforms

Hajiya A'isha Abubakar, Nigeria's Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment has said that made-in-Nigeria textiles would be re-branded and reintroduced for patronage by Nigerians beginning with school uniforms, military and para-military uniforms and uniforms of the NYSC.

She stated this in Benin on the 15th of September 2016 during the 28th Annual National Education Conference and National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) and the Nigerian Textile, Garment and Tailoring Employers Association (NTGTEA).

According to the Minister, plans are underway for Nigerian military and para-military personnel to use made in Nigeria textile for their uniforms.

She further said that ''The government is presently in discussion with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on how to stop smuggling of textiles materials into the country through the nation’s border posts. The other plan is to reduce production cost, especially the cost of gas. We are working out ways to change gas pricing from dollar to naira.''

The Minister was represented by Barnabas Jattau a Director in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment.
