FASHOLA UNVEILS ONE-STOP SHOP FOR MOTORISTS

Lagos State government says it will soon unveil plans for the provision of a safe, reliable and efficient transportation system for sustainable economic growth of the state.

This was disclosed by the State commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa at the press briefing of his ministry to commemorate the 3rd year of the 2nd term of Mr. Babatunde Fashola’s administration in the State.

He said “Before the end of the third quarter of this year, we will present to the people of the Lagos the first state-of-the-art One-Stop Shop for the process and issuance of all Motor Vehicle Administration Agency’s product which includes drivers’ licence, vehicle number plate and other vehicle particulars to the public”.

Opeifa said that the One-Stop Centre is an innovation in this part of the world aimed at procurement of motor vehicle services and Drivers’ Services documentation through limited bureaucracy and taking the services nearer to the people under a single conducive environment.

The pioneer of the five of the centres which will be situated in all the five divisions of the state is nearing completion at Oshodi where the Lagos Driving Institute (LASDRI) is located and due for commissioning in the second quarter of 2014.

The State-of-the-Art Centre when in full operation would be available for procurement of Number Plate, Vehicle Licence, Drivers’ License, Hackney Permit, Road Worthiness amongst others and it would house allied agencies and bodies such as the MVAA, FRSC, VIS, THE BANK, AUTOREG.

In furtherance of provision of essential services to the citizenry, the Agency was identified by the State as one of governments’ MDA to provide weekend service in order to offer flexible services to people who might not have the time to patronize the Agency during the week in view of their busy schedule. Hence, the Agency has risen to the challenge and services are to be rendered during Saturday working hours.

However, Temporary Vehicle Tag (TVT) for unregistered vehicles is set to be launched on 13th of June, 2014 according to the Commissioner adding that the TVT as the name implies will serve as a veritable means of identification for vehicles before their actual registration. It will allow the capturing of data of vehicles on the database and serve as a link for tracking same in the case of security challenges. The need was consequent upon the delay in obtaining Customs papers for necessary registration.

He however added that TVT as a form of registration would conform to approved registration conditions to save the production of Customs Duty Card, while the owner would be issued with registration documents (TVT) with validity period of 30 days.

He said though the product is backed by Law, it is benchmarked on the standard practices in several countries in Europe, America and Canada, with a semblance of it in neighbouring Republic of Benin. The product is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2014.
