Nigerian-Born Segun Adeyina Wins Georgia Re-Election in 75.6% Landslide

Nigerian-born lawmaker Segun Adeyina has secured another term in the Georgia House of Representatives, delivering a decisive electoral victory that further strengthens his position in American public life and adds to the growing record of Nigerians making their mark in international leadership.

Adeyina, a Democratic incumbent representing District 110, defeated Republican challenger Charles Lollar in the November 3, 2026, midterm elections, polling 21,696 votes, representing 75.6 per cent of the total ballots cast. Lollar received 6,991 votes, or 24.4 per cent.

The 14,705-vote margin represents a commanding return for Adeyina, who first won election to the Georgia legislature in 2022 and represents parts of Gwinnett County. His latest victory provides a strong electoral endorsement as he prepares to continue his legislative responsibilities.

Beyond the ballot, Adeyina is an executive director of the Nigerian American Public Advisory Committee, an organisation involved in voter education and registration among immigrant communities.

The role places him at the intersection of public service and community advocacy, particularly in efforts to encourage political participation among immigrant populations. His renewed mandate offers an opportunity to continue representing his constituents while contributing to legislative discussions that shape the state.

Adeyina's victory also forms part of achievements by Nigerian-Americans in the 2026 United States midterm elections. He was among five Nigerian-Americans reported to have secured elective positions across different levels of government, with all five contesting on the Democratic Party platform.

Will Jawando won the Montgomery County executive race in Maryland, while Junior Ezeonu secured a seat in the Texas House of Representatives. Oye Owolewa won an at-large seat on the District of Columbia Council, and Carol Kazeem retained her position in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The results reflect the increasing participation of Nigerians and people of Nigerian heritage in American political institutions. Their contributions span local administration, state legislatures and community representation, demonstrating the growing reach of Nigerian talent and leadership across international boundaries.

Adeyina's return to the Georgia House is particularly notable for the strength of his mandate. Winning more than three-quarters of the votes cast, he has secured a substantial endorsement from District 110 voters.

As he begins another term, the focus will shift from electoral success to legislative performance. The responsibility before him is to translate the confidence expressed at the polls into effective representation and meaningful service to his constituents.

His re-election stands as a notable achievement in the expanding story of Nigerian participation in American democracy.
