ABILITY IN DISABILITY : A WORTHY COURSE

ADEBOLA DANIEL , the son of the former governor of Ogun State, has advocated for equity and fairness to the physically disabled people in Nigeria. Through his new Foundation, he is seeking to give a stronger voice to the disabled.

A graduate of University College London - Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Adebola is also an inspirational speaker with TEDx Talk and the founder of the AFRICAN YOUTH INITIATIVE.
In a statement made available to NAN, Adebola stresses the need for organizations to better integrate the disabled.

“It is unacceptable that Shell and other multinationals adhere to strict disability codes in the US and UK but are unable to carry this same principles to Nigeria,” he said.

According to him, the DEBOLA DANIEL FOUNDATION will not be a charity organisation that will give out wheelchairs and crutches to the physically disabled. Rather, it will challenge government to think of disabilities when formulating policies especially in Education, Employment, Entrepreneurism and Development.

Adebola was born without a disability into a comfortable and loving home. However, at 5 years of age, he was diagnosed with paraplegia - a rare condition with no medical clarity and thus confined to the wheelchair ever since then.

Nevertheless, Adebola has been able to overcome the stigma and assumptions associated with being 'disabled' and he is very much determined to champion the course of a full integration of the physically disabled into the Nigerian society.
