Our Women Our Pride By Christiana Acha

Nigeria is home to over 150 million people, a federation of over 300 tribes and Cultures, a convergence of over 250 ethnic groups, speaking more than 500 languages, needless to say that Nigeria is indeed a land of many colors.

As a nation our strength lies in our differences as each tribe brings with it, it's own uniqueness and peculiarities, it's own rich cultural heritage . it is our bountiful, human and natural resources that have earned us our place as the giant of Africa.

One of our many prides as a nation are our beautiful women, as some of the most beautiful and industrious women in the world can be found within our shores.

A simple walk down the streets of Nigeria and you will be greeted with exquisite faces and ravishing beauties. From the banks of the kalabari Kingdom to the ancient city of Kano, our women have continued to leave lasting impressions on the hearts of men, little wonder why our women are at the Vanguard of the fashion, beauty and entertainment industries on the international scene.

The likes of Agbani Darego (Miss World 2001), Oluchi Onweagba, Shirley Bassey, Yaya Dacosta, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Adaora akubilo to mention a few, are all proudly Nigerian.

Interestingly, the Nigerian woman brings more to the table than her astonishing exterior. Our soil has produced, strong, intelligent, reputable, industrious and notable names like Folorunsho Alakija, Okonjo Iweala, Joy Ogwu, Dora Akunyili, Bola Shagaya, Oby Ezekwesili and many more who are all making impact on the global scene, indeed the Nigerian woman is one of Nigeria's many prides and I make bold to say we respect, cherish and adore them.

This is why the mystery known as "the chibok girls" continues to be a regrettable incident, one that has made an attempt to tarnish the reputation we have worked so hard to build. The whisking away of over 200 school girls in the dark of the night was a sour tale that rocked the very foundation of our country's existence. The nation and even the world was shocked as no one could understand the objective of such a callous act and till today it still remains a mystery.

However, as humans hope is a gift we cannot afford to discard and that is why our hope still stands strong and our belief sure that sooner than later there will be closure to the unfortunate chibok girls incident and our reputation as a nation will be restored.
