Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan delivered one of the standout performances of the Wanda Diamond League season on Sunday, powering to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Meeting International Mohammed VI in Rabat, Morocco.
The world record holder crossed the finish line in 12.28 seconds, matching her season’s best and securing her first Diamond League win of the 2026 campaign. In the process, the 29-year-old rewrote the meeting record, lowering the previous mark of 12.45 seconds that she had set at the same venue in 2025.
With a legal tailwind of +1.2 m/s behind the athletes, Amusan produced a commanding display from start to finish, underlining her status as one of the sport’s premier sprint hurdlers.
Her winning time left the rest of the field chasing. Bahamian star Devynne Charlton finished second in 12.40 seconds, while the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser claimed third place with a time of 12.47 seconds.
The Rabat success marks another important step in Amusan’s steady rise through the 2026 season. She opened her Diamond League campaign with a third-place finish in Shanghai, clocking 12.41 seconds, before improving to second place in Xiamen where she equalled her season-best mark of 12.28 seconds.
That progression culminated in Rabat, where she finally reached the top step of the podium and collected maximum points on the circuit.
For an athlete whose résumé already includes Diamond League overall titles in 2021, 2022 and 2023, the latest victory serves as a strong statement ahead of the season’s major championships. After a fiercely competitive start to the outdoor campaign, Amusan appears to be rediscovering the rhythm and consistency that have made her one of Nigeria’s most successful track stars.
While the Rabat meeting featured several impressive performances across different events, Amusan’s record-breaking run emerged as one of the defining moments of the evening, further reinforcing her credentials as a leading contender whenever the world’s best hurdlers line up on the track.
As the Diamond League season gathers momentum, the Nigerian star’s return to winning form will be watched closely by athletics fans around the world.
