Lagos wins ''Best Performing SUBEB'' Award



The effort of the Lagos State Government to improve the standard of education in Lagos through State Universal Basic Education Board has started to yield positive result as the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin has emerged as the Best Performing Chairman in the South West while Team Lagos came third in the Inter-SUBEB Schools Debate Championship held recently in Minna, Niger State.


The Championship, which was organised by the President’s Schools Debate, Nigeria, in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission and SUBEBs, also marked the 56th Independence Anniversary of the Inter-SUBEB Schools Debate Championship National Final & Awards Ceremony featuring all State Universal Basic Education Boards in the
country.

Speaking on the achievement, the Executive Chairman of Lagos StateUniversal Basic Education Board, Dr, Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to further take basic education in the State to an enviable height.

He attributed the success being achieved at the education sector in
recent times to the passion and zeal of the present administration to
fulfill and deliver on its electioneering promises, adding that education in the State would achieve greater quality and competitive advantage as promised by the present administration.

He emphasized that based on empirical statistics available, the level
of education in the State was improving with the provision of more
education facilities, teachers’ welfare and training, construction and
rehabilitation of schools and employment of teaching staff as approved by the State Government.

He promised that the State Government would not relent in its efforts to promote the gains being achieved but rather to continue to
consolidate and strengthen the already mutual understanding and
cooperation between the State and other stakeholders in the education sector.

Other winners at the Championship included the Chairmen of the State Universal Education Boards of Kastina, Cross-Rivers, Taraba, Anambra and Niger States, while Team Imo and Anambra came first and second respectively at the debate championship.
